Natural Partnership
Elusive Goose Vineyards in partnership with Nature
Harmony with Nature
Whether through the rhythm of seasons, the cycle of life, or the patterns of weather, Elusive Goose Vineyards views the natural world as our teacher and guide, seeking to operate in harmony with Nature as often as possible. Wine with true integrity and lasting beauty begins with healthy grapes from a healthy vineyard, free of synthetic chemicals and excessive intervention, where a naturally balanced ecosystem is supported through a regionally appropriate natural diversity of plants and animals. Our mission comes full circle when our operations support the health and wellness of the land, its people, and the communities they form to the greatest extent possible.
Nurturing healthy natural grasslands in and around our vineyards is fundamental to our approach here in Northwest Montana. Because of the history of each unique site, restoration is often necessary before a balanced, diverse, and naturally sustainable ecosystem is present. This process typically involves a combination of mechanical weeding in patient partnership with nature's natural predators such as Knapweed months, flower weevils, and root weevils. While this process often takes three to five growing season to find a natural balance, and may require additional regenerative inputs to increase soil health, it ultimately results in a flourishing ecosystem where invasive species are naturally minimized and native plants and animals thrive.
